A-B says its latest NFT collection sold out, making $4.5M – STLtoday.com

ST. LOUIS — Anheuser-Busch says its latest NFT collection has sold out, bringing in $4.5 million in revenue.

Starting Feb. 6, A-B offered more than 12,000 Bud Light Next-themed nonfungible tokens — essentially tradable digital artwork — for $399 each to customers of drinking age. The company said buyers would be able to vote on merchandise for the new zero-carb beer and get access to brand events.

They sold out an hour before Super Bowl kickoff, said A-B spokesperson Lacey Clifford.

The effort marks A-B’s latest push into the blockchain-based technology, which caught fire last year as digital artwork began selling at auction for tens of millions of dollars and brands like Adidas and Gucci rushed to claim their share of the nascent market.

Last summer, the world’s largest brewer, which has its North American headquarters here, used its Stella Artois brand to sell an NFT of a fried chicken recipe to support struggling restaurants. Then Budweiser put nearly 2,000 digital designs of beer cans up for sale in November and they sold out in an hour. The King of Beers followed up in January with its “Royalty” collection, featuring up-and-coming musicians, and sold out within a day.

Fear not, if you’re pining for an A-B token, you can find plenty for resale at the online market OpenSea.

NFTs of Budweiser cans, which originally sold for $499-$999, have sold for several times that.

But Bud Light Next tokens, which peaked for resale at over $500 on Feb. 12, have been averaging closer to $150 since last Wednesday.
